General Questions
Q
Why doesn't the Web page look the same on my phone as it does on my desktop?
A
Because the device screen is smaller then the screen on a typical desktop. Most
Web sites are designed with a large, high-resolution screen in mind, and would
require a significant amount of horizontal scrolling if displayed on the device
in their original format.
nweb
uses patent-pending technology to adapt Web sites to the device's small screen
but still providing access to the site's content.
Q
nweb
looks or works differently on my new phone than it did on my previous phone. Why?
A
Due to the differences in phone models and operating systems, nweb
may look and act differently, in some cases, on different phones.
Q
Is nweb
available for all phones?
A
The supported list of phones is continuosly growing. Check
www.novarra.com for the up-to-date list of supported phones.
Q
Can I just download nweb
and begin using it?
A
Yes, if your phone is supported, your mobile network operator offers data service
and you have signed up for it. Just like you need an Internet Service Provider
for your desktops, your mobile network operator must offer this option.
Q
What must I know about my phone?
A
Most importantly, cell phone features, functions and buttons vary between models
and manufacturers. You should have knowledge of the use and navigation features
of your phone. You should refer to the user documentation provided by the manufacturer
or mobile network operator for your phone.
Q
Will I be able to see all Web pages on my phone?
A
You will be able to see almost all of the Web pages you would have access to on
your desktop browser. Some content may not be displayed due to memory limitations
and phone capabilities. Examples are Flash, QuickTime, etc.
Q
Is the "Home Page" and "Host Address" the same thing?
A
No. The "Home Page" is a selected Web page that you may have the ability
to change. The "Host Address" is a special address that you get your
Internet access through. An improper "Host Address" will disrupt your
Internet access. You should not change the "Host Address" unless directed
to by your mobile network operator.

Bookmarks
Q
When I add a Web page to my Favorites, the page looks different when I return
to it later. Why?
A
A Favorite in nweb
does not store the actual page. It stores a reference to the page’s Web address
URL). Depending on how the Web site is developed, the page may be updated frequently
(e.g. financial Web sites). This is why the page looks different.

Cache (Memory)
Q
How often should I clear my cache?
A
Generally, you shouldn't have to clear your cache. nweb
maintains an "almost-full" cache and automatically deletes older pages
as newer ones are downloaded.

Connecting to the Internet/Loading
Q
I occasionally experience difficulty in connecting to the Internet. What can I
do?
A
The same conditions that interfere with your phone service will also affect your
ability to connect to the Internet. Check that there is good signal strength on
your phone. Try moving to another location where more signal strength bars appear.
Q
Some pages load more quickly than others. Why is this?
A
A lot of factors come into play when viewing Web pages. Such as page size and
content, signal strength, and if the page is already in the cache.
Q
Can I start to view a Web page before it is completely downloaded?
A
Yes. You can begin to scroll and click before the Web page is fully downloaded.
Q
The sites I visit most often take longer to download than I like. Is there anyway
to make them download faster?
A
The content of a Web site will determine how long a download may take. Pages with
a lot of images generally take the longest. You can turn off the downloading of
images in the Options screen of nweb
. This will speed up the downloading.

Entering Web Addresses
Q
Do I have to enter an entire Web address (e.g. http://www.google.com) in order
to view it on nweb
?
A
No. You don't need to include http:// in your address or www. Just entering google.com
will get you to their site.

Images/Pictures
Q
Why do I sometimes see pictures split in two or more pieces, and the parts do
not fit together?
A
Some images are composed of several smaller images fitted together. nweb
may reposition the components to fit your screen, but the functionality of the
Web page remains.
Q
During downloading, I sometimes see rectangles with image names and an icon inside,
and other times I see just image names next to the image load icon (no rectangle).
Why?
A
The rectangle or image load icon you see is a "placeholder" for the
image. nweb
downloads the Web site's content first and then the images. This means you can
begin to surf the Web page's content while the images are downloading.
Q
I don't see any images on my Web pages, only rectangles. Why?
A
One of the features of nweb
is the ability to "turn off" images to speed up the downloading process.
If you want to see images, go to the Options screen and change this feature to
Q
Why does nweb
show some images even when "Image Retrieval" in the Options screen is
set to off?
A
"Image Retrieval" is set to "On" by default and images are
automatically loaded. You can change this option by selecting "Off"
or "Manual with placeholders". However images already in cache storage
on nweb
, from previous viewing of Web pages, will display on the screen unless you clear
the cache.

Navigation
Q
My phone's navigation keys work differently in nweb
than what I am used to. What can I do?
A
The default setting in nweb
is that pressing the navigation key up or down moves you up or down one screen.
Pressing it left or right moves the cursor one element (links, clickable images,
etc.) left or right. To swap these actions, go to the Options screen and check
the "Swap Nav Keys" checkbox and save the settings.
Q
I realize that large pages are difficult to navigate on a small screen. Is there
any way to view portions of Web pages faster than multiple presses of the navigation
key?
A
Yes. nweb
offers special features and shortcuts to aid in navigation. The diagram below
shows the various keys used, and their functions, when navigating a Web page in
nweb
.

Phone Questions
Q
While I'm browsing on my phone, will I still receive calls?
A
Yes. Your phone application will notify you that you are receiving a call and
let you answer it.
Q
Does browsing use up my phone's battery?
A
Yes. Activities that require either the screen to remain active or use the network
to request data reduce the charge on your phone's battery.

Shortcuts
Q

when on a Web page or Main Menu.
